By M. J. Somoni, GOAL ~ The Kazakhstan football team has cancelled its international friendly match against the Uganda Cranes which had been planned to take place at Astana Arena on August 9.

According to the New Vision, the Kazakhstan Football Association (KFA) wrote to Fufa last week to inform them about the cancellation and that they will play against Syria on that date.

Ugandan football governing body (Fufa) technical director, Asuman Lubowa said the federation is in the process of identifying another national team to play against before the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

“They (Kazakhstan) have opted for Syria. I cannot tell you why because we did not probe that. But we are also planning something else, possibly before Cranes travel to Angola,” Lubowa said.

KFA had accepted to host the Cranes in a Fifa sanctioned friendly on condition that Fufa fielded a full-strength Cranes side. The hosts had agreed to facilitate travel for Uganda’s foreign based players.
