By Jennifer Delgado, TribLocal reporter ~ A 26-year-old Chicago man will appear in Skokie court Oct. 28 after he attempted to rob a hotel with a loaded handgun and later stole cash from another hotel using the weapon, Des Plaines authorities said.

Musanje James Ntulume, of the 5000 block of North Elston Avenue, allegedly pointed a handgun at a clerk and demanded money inside the Extended Stay America Hotel, 1201 E. Touhy Ave., around 12:45 a.m. Oct. 15, a press release stated. The clerk couldn’t access the cash and Ntulume fled, police said.

Thirty minutes later, Ntulume allegedly jumped over the counter and threatened to shoot the clerks at the Comfort Inn, 2175 E. Touhy Ave., police said. He left the hotel with cash, though it was not immediately known how much.

Acting on a hunch the thief might try and rob again, police said they established surveillance at two other area hotels. Twenty minutes later, Ntulume allegedly appeared in the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn — he matched previous descriptions — and was preparing to commit another armed robbery, police said.

The offender was arrested and allegedly later admitted his involvement in the two other hotel incidents. His gun was reported stolen in Indiana, police said.

Ntulume was charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed violence, possession of a stolen firearm and use of a stolen gun in the commission of a crime.

Rosemont police and the Arlington Heights K-9 unit assisted.
