DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT:
Dear friends,  Last week passed with a huge icon in our lives. Kisembo Katongole, known as ‘Katso’ to many, and also known as ‘Semo’ to others quietly departed from this world.

We thank God for the great gift of life that he gave Semo, to some of us, it feels like it was too short but Semo lived his life to the full.  In these days where Facebook plays a part in so many lives, one can see that Semo had a huge list of friends. Real testimony to this is the number of people that have sent messages to the Facebook page CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF KATONGOLE ‘SEMO- KATSO’ KISEMBO R.I.P and other family-linked pages.

Semo went to Kampala Parents Primary School, then went to Kings College Budo for O’levels and joined Namilyango College for A’level’s.  Katso had just finished his studies at Makerere University from which he graduated with a 2:1 BSc Hons Degree in Actuarial Science in June 2011.  Katso left Uganda in April for a visit in the United States, on a mission to pursue further studies and was staying with our sister Birungi in Atlanta Georgia.

Only less a few months ago Katso went into hospital in Atlanta after complaining about chest pains.  After a few tests, he was diagnosed with cancer.  This was a huge blow to the family but it did not dampen Semo’s spirit.  He would not allow us to worry about him. He had the will to live and sure enough, he recovered from that bout and was discharged from hospital. A big appreciation goes out to Birungi, Mukasa and the Atlanta and Boston family who worked tirelessly, supporting him through his treatment.

Semo travelled extensively in the US and one place he loved was Boston, Massachusetts. It was whilst he was visiting Boston that he fell ill and was admitted to hospital.  We thank friends and medical teams who worked so hard to make Katso comfortable during the 2 weeks he spent at this hospital until the 28 October 2011 when he left us.

Maama Jean Katongole and the family would like to thank everybody for the lovely messages and contributions that have been received in Uganda, UK and the US.  Arrangements to send Katso home for burial are underway. These will be published through the various online channels as soon as they are known.  In the meantime, please send any contributions (mabugo) towards funeral expenses to these accounts that have been set up for this purpose:
