Press Release | Canada Welcomes Ugandans! ~  Vancouver, Canada, June 29 to July 2, 2012, will see the first Uganda-Canada Business & Social Convention take place at the Sheraton Wall Center Hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

The Convention, hosted by the Uganda Cultural Association of BC (UCABC) with the support of Ugandan Communities across Canada, is the first of its kind that aims to bring together Ugandans and Canadians seeking bilateral business and investment opportunities.

2012 is a very significant year in the history of Uganda as we celebrate 50 years of Independence and in the same year Canada will also celebrate its 145th birthday on July 1st, over the Convention weekend. The Uganda Cultural Association of BC therefore wants to build bridges between Uganda and Canada. Many Ugandans in Canada are seeking opportunities to build public private partnerships with a desire to give back and participate in Uganda’s national development. Similarly, trade from Uganda to Canada has also been modest. Therefore, the main objective of this Convention, is to create a forum where businesses and investors can interact, share information and ideas on opportunities in both countries. Ultimately, the Convention should contribute towards the greater good of improving and bettering both our nations and communities.

Carol Magambo, UCABC President

The organizers of the Convention have parceled out the weekend into various forums and workshops with a range of topics to capture the diverse interests of the participants. Some of forums will include but not limited to; Trade and Investment, NGOs, Tourism, Student Exchange Programs, the current situation in Northern Uganda and also a Forum to spark a debate on the Golden Jubilee looking at the Past, the Present and the Future of Uganda 50 years and counting. On the social scene, there will be a boat cruise for our participants to site-see the Vancouver Harbor and the Pacific coastline amidst lively entertainment from some of Uganda’s well-renown musicians.

Vancouver has a lot to offer. For the last 10 consecutive years, according to Mercer Consulting Group and Economist Intelligence Unit, Vancouver has dominated the whole world by holding the title of the most livable city in the whole world. The picturesque backdrop of the snowcapped North Coastal Mountains against the Pacific Ocean on an evergreen canopy made Vancouver host to the 2010 Winter Olympics and it continues to attract millions of tourists every year. Vancouver is Canada’s best-kept secret and therefore a definite must-see.

The Ugandan Cultural Association of British Columbia (UCABC) is a registered non-profit community organization incorporated in the Province of British Columbia and has been in existence for over 20 years to cater for the integration of new Ugandan immigrants into Canada through developing social and community networks.

We are truly excited to see you all in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada June 29-July 02, 2012.
