Ugandan Rap artist, GNL Zamba, has released “Power”, a unique and scintilating new Music video from one of the songs on his Album called “Simply Amazing.” The style of the video show’s that Ugandan Musicians are doing their best to push the envolope in creating unique musical presentations. It’s refreshing in a way to see the direction that GNL is taking in this music video.

The video is currently marketed as Uganda’s “FIRST” fully animated Music video, and it does indeed have the 2D style approach similar to the throw back of Disney animations. However on closer inspection, it’s apparent that the music video is a combination of still photos and some shots of 2D Cartoon animated subjects of GNL and 2 other characters dancing to the riveting lyrics.

The quality of the cell shading is still lacking because it looks like live video frames that were rotoscoped, or shot on a green screen and applied with a cartoon style effect.

Overall, the Music video does well in showing a unique and artistic approach and GNL should indeed be credited for staying true to his Hip Hop roots and also for pushing the envelope of showing Uganda what is possible, if you put your mind to the task of creating unique content. Great Job GNL!! Keep them coming and continue blazing the Hip Hop trail in Uganda.

this looks like rotoscoping style. the green thing, i think it was brought by drawing the animation fast on a green background and they kind of faired at keying it out. And if they can improve on the tracking of the background with the characters it will be great.
    But its a great piece.

Credit where credit is due…good job with pushing the button on animation, hopefully more artists in Uganda take the risk and perfect what you have started. The still shots were so unnecessary in this piece, not sure what the connection was. I have used Toonit for some ads I have worked on in the past, this piece is a bad way of utilizing an otherwise helpful software. There are plenty of tutorials on how to perfect rotoscoping.

    Ratings:
    A for effort
    D for execution

Everything published was very reasonable. However, what about this?

what if you composed a catchier title? I am not suggesting your
content isn’t good, however suppose you added something that makes people
want more? I mean Review ~ New Music Video
