By Ronnie Mayanja – Multi-Professional Consultants – MPC held their annual business community workshop on Saturday November 24th at Lexington Lodge of Elks, 985 Waltham Street in Lexington, Massachusetts. The Workshop aimed at sensitizing community business owners, start up businesses, community members pursuing higher education addressed issues ranging from  immigration, taxation and also offered advise on how to improve life in the Diaspora.

In his welcome remarks the CEO OF MPC – Dr. Michael Kisembo thanked the Ugandan Community for the continued support. He noted that their annual give back workshops are aimed at encouraging the community to tap into all the available opportunities in the State of Massachusetts and to help members better their livelihoods and that of the community.

Topics of discussion this year included empowering motivational talks on how to maximise your potential, immigration matters, business funding, education and culture as a cornerstone of the community empowerment, Tax education, ways you can study in the USA and Canada, strategic careers that offer better pay and alot more.

Perhaps the most notable discussion came from a presentation by Richard Cabelus an immigration lawyer who expounded on the the ‘Dream Act’ and the new changes at the Bureau of Citizen and Immigration Services that could benefit community including ways and means undocumented Ugandans could obtain work authorization especially  those who arrived in the US before their 16th birthday. He also discussed deferred action from immigration for Ugandans meeting certain criteria including those that were under the age of 31 years as of June 15th 2012 and those with that attained their GED,  high school diplomas and a college degree as potentially eligible to pursue residency in the USA.  At the end of his presentation Mr. Calebus entertained Questions on all immigration related issues.

The Event Mcee was Mr. Simple Nsereko of Radio Uganda Boston and he was also assisted by Miss Alice Nkore. Other presenters included Barnabas Nkore,  Andrew Mwasse,  Moses Bukenya, Dr. David Nyanzi, Godfrey Kaweesa, Bob Kasana and William Nyende
