The Ugandan Toronto Community Mourns The Passing of Achilla Rufino Orru
Dear Ugandan community:
It is with great sadness that I announce to the community through your good services, the passing of our beloved brother Achilla Rufino ORRU. Achilla was found dead by Police at my invitation, in his apartment at 100 Goodwood Park Court , off of Dawes, off of The Darnforth Avenue, in Toronto at 8 pm on Monday February 4, 2013.
I had gone to check on Achilla, after failing to get return calls from him for two weeks and after his wife in Uganda had called me to alert me to the factthat she had not been able to make contact with him as well for about two weeks. Police and the Coroner attended the scene and did not suspect foul play.
The Coroner formed the opinion that the cause of death was heart disease, and dispensed with an autopsy. From some of the medication found in his house, it was established that Achilla was also a diabetic. My office has been in contact with his wife Rose Aketch ORRU. I do not have concrete indication as to what the family would like done, but I strongly suspect that he will be buried in Canada . Concrete plans will be put in place after all concerned are fully appraised of the situation.
Achilla is survived by an elder son who lives in Dartmouth , Nova Scotia , from a prior relationship. His wife Rose who lives in Uganda , but had just recently been granted a visa to enter Canada , and three sons from Rose ranging in age between and 6 and 2. Achilla was 53 years of age.
I would appreciate having this message disseminated as widely as can be. There will be a meeting to discuss funeral arrangements and any matters arising on Sunday February 10th 2013 at Uganda Martyrs United Church of Canada, 2799 Weston Rd, Toronto, ON, M9M 2R8 – (Major intersection Hwy 400 and Shepard) after the 4pm service. Service is runs from 4 to 5:30pm.

King Achilla Orru Apaa Idomo, you were a very good friend and you will be missed. I haven’t forgotten the plans we had in Africa. Please watch over us and guide us as we continue to do your work.
With much love and gratitude,
A.I & R.G.
Achilla, I told you I love to stop and smell the roses in the journey of life. You taught me to feel the roses, too. I often used the example of your life in my work and told my colleagues and my clients that disability is a state of mind. Thank you for your gift of music, your love of life, and your great example to others. Rest In Peace my friend.
R.I.P Achilla
How we will miss him in the Sherbourne/Howard neighbourhood. Whether having coffee or city in the park, we had some great conversations. Such a gentleman and, after reading his background, so humble. He also played at the Cabbagetown Festival, so his passing would affect a lot of neighbourhoods in the City of Toronto. Too young to go.
RIP Achilla, I remember well when we met. . You visited my home and we listened to you play the guitar and sing songs of your childhood and your homeland. Ben is growning up to be a fine young man. I cherish the copy of your first CD, thank you. Your music is wonderful.
