Musaazi has been a journalist for 21 years, and began his career in Uganda working for several newspapers, including Uganda’s oldest weekly, The Sunrise, of which he was the founding editor. Musaazi has also had stints at The EastAfrican, published by Nation Media Group, Daily Topic and The People newspapers.

After more than a decade working in Uganda, Musaazi applied for and was awarded a Thomson-Reuters Fellowship at Oxford University in 2006, becoming the first Ugandan journalist to receive the coveted award. The Fellowship brings top-notch journalists from around the world to Oxford, where they undertake independent research projects under the guidance and supervision of Oxford’s academics.

After the Fellowship, he went on to pursue an advanced degree in International Journalism on a bursary provided by Cardiff University and supplemented by the Guardian Foundation and the Times newspaper in the UK.

In February 2008, Musaazi joined Al Jazeera, the international satellite channel based in Doha, capital of the Gulf State of Qatar. He has since worked as one of Al Jazeera’s online editors and currently heads the Africa Desk (web).

Musaazi’s quest for journalism training has taken him to America’s Media School Poynter for leadership courses. He has been a Harry Brittain Fellow and was part of the 2003 summer class at the Thomson Foundation in Cardiff, where journalists are trained to be newsroom managers.
