With barely 24 hours to the deadline of picking nomination forms at the ruling party offices on Friday July 31st 2015, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni declared his intentions to run as NRM flag bearer and party Chairman. The fact that no other candidate stepped forward as the looming deadline approached was a clear indication that the sole candidate campaign strategy had won the day.

sole candidate

After nearly 30 years at the helm of the NRM party President Museveni will be elected unopposed to lead his party whose internal democracy has increasingly come under question following the treatment and handling of his closest aide and former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, the latter of-course opted out of the NRM party primaries describing them as illegal and decided to run as an independent candidate.
