The 17th Annual ICOB Convention will be held from Thursday August 1st, 2019 to Monday August 5th, 2019 at the Hilton Meadowlands located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza, East Rutherford New Jersey.

The theme of this year’s Convention is Innovation driven tourism and it will focus on key areas that include showcasing Kigezi as a priority tourist destination; present and promote the case for sustainable tourism; create opportunities for Ugandan tourism operators/entrepreneurs to partner with American tourism operators.

The Convention will include presentations from experts in the Ugandan tourism industry including the world renowned PHG Consulting which has done a commendable job of promoting Uganda’s tourism potential to the American tourism operators and businesses. PHG Consulting will facilitate the interaction of American tourism operators and their Ugandan counterparts.

Following a fruitful meeting at the Ugandan Embassy in Washington DC between the chairperson ICOB New Jersey, Sarah Sebikari-Rukunda, Ambassador Mull Katende, Ambassador Santa Mary Laker Kinyera (Deputy head of Mission) and Mr Michael Bulwaka, the First Secretary it was resolved that the latter would become a liaison between the Uganda Embassy and the ICOB Preparatory Committee with HE Amb. Mull Katende pledging to attend.

The Convention will witness the rollout of the Kigezi Investment Fund to enable the Banyakigezi in the diaspora to pool their resources and invest in various sectors including Kigezi’s fast growing tourism sector.

The Convention will be graced by the presence of both the Ugandan Ambassador to the United States and Uganda’s Permanent representative to the United Nations, H.E Ambassador Mull Katende and H.E Ambassador Adoniya Ayebare respectively as well as their staff who will assist attendees in the matters of national identification registration, immigration and dual citizenship.

Leading political and civil leaders who hail from the Kigezi region and other regions in Uganda are expected to attend. There will be a fundraising gala dinner dance on Saturday August 3rd, 2019 priced at $75 per person. The proceeds of this fundraising drive will benefit the Kigezi Education Fund’s ICT Education programs.

The Convention will conclude with a family friendly lunch buffet boat cruise on Sunday August 4th. 2019 aboard the luxury boat cruise – The Hornblower infinity along the scenic Hudson River.
