The High Commissioner of Uganda to Canada, H.E Joy Ruth Acheng flagged off a second batch of travelers returning to Uganda on the repatriation flight from Canada at Lester B Pearson International Airport Toronto, yesterday July 18th 2020. The flight is expected to arrive Sunday evening at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda.

According the Country Manager of Ethiopian Airlines Canada, Mr. Samson Arega the Flight will carry more than 50 Ugandans originating from Canada with another group of about 28 transiting from Sao Paolo, Brazil. Several Ugandans who were also stranded in Brazil, departed Saturday 18th July 2020, at the Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport in Sao Paulo, on a repatriation flight bound for Entebbe via Canada.

The group consists mainly of a 26-member Watoto Choir members in addition to a mother and baby. Whereas Uganda does not have an Embassy in South America, the region is overseen by Uganda’s Embassy in Washington, DC.

The stranded passengers responded to the Embassy’s call for registration in May 2020 and plans for their repatriation and route options were put in place by Travel agency Satguru Travel Solutions.  The passengers will arrive at Entebbe Airport aboard the Ethiopian Airlines repatriation flight, transiting in Addis Ababa from Ontario, Canada tomorrow, 19th July 2020.

In a separate development the flight that departed from Washington Dulles International Airport in the United States arrived safely at Entebbe International Airport this morning. Many of the those on board will have to quarantine for another two weeks before they can be allowed to reintegrate into society per the Uganda Ministry of Health guidelines and protocols.

A special thank-you to the Uganda Embassy in Washington DC, Satguru Travel Management, the Company at the Center of the repatriation process and Ethiopian Airlines for making this exercise seamlessly possible.
