Obituary — Mr. Frederick Galiwango Kaddu was born in Uganda on January 26th, 1963 to Mr. Israel Kaddu Mukasa and Ms. Deborah Nakimuli. Frederick was the third of eight children. As a young man, he entered the army where he started boxing for the Ugandan army and later went on to fight professionally and became a heavy weight champion of Uganda.

He met his wife Margaret at Philadelphia Church in Mengo, Uganda.  In April 1988, through his Boxing Manager Jack McPhee, he got the opportunity to come to the United States. Shortly after his arrival, he was joined by Margaret and his eldest daughter Grace. Frederick lived in Northern California and went on to have five more children: Joshua, Melody, Babirye Jacqueline, Nakato Jenine, and Jonathan.

Fredrick attended Contra Costa College and San Francisco State University. He worked as an Apprentice Ironworker for many years and later earned his Journeyman Card. He obtained an Instructors Certification in Welding. At his work place, Fredrick touched many lives as an instructor and set a good example of professionalism by earning his credential and degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Social Science from Solano Community College.

Fredrick’s co-workers knew him as someone who always shared his knowledge and on-the-job experience with his students. He was “patient and fair.”

Fredrick was a man of God who loved his family and friends. In 1991 he lost a daughter Melody (4 months old) to SIDS. He founded the Melody emergency fund which became Uganda Emergency Fund and there after the Association of Ugandan Community in Northern California (AUCNC) co-opted it into a community Initiatives.

In 2007: Mr. Kaddu elected Chairman of one of the most successful UNAA convention in San Francisco.  In 2010 he was a pioneer of AUCNC life insurance policy for all Ugandan Americans in Northern California. AUCNC brought Ugandan American families together; they laughed and cried together because of Mr. Kaddu’s efforts. The community is what it is today because of Mr. Kaddu’s initiate in 1991.

He loved his wife, Margaret, so much. He has set a good example as a role model: loving; hard working,  patient and a disciplinarian. He has been the children’s number one fun/cheerleader – attending all his kids games…

He’s survived by his wife Nalongo Margaret, his children, Grace, Joshua, Babirye Jaqueline, Nakato Jenine, Jonathan,  his granddaughter Saleah, sister Ms. Idah Kateike, Juliet Nankya, Christine Nakajja, Susan Mirembe and Pastor Dennis Kasirye in Uganda including his mother Ms. Deborah Nakimuli.

The late Mr Kaddu, has also been the President of Association of Uganda Community in Northern California(AUCNC), a San Francisco Bay Area community giant; now known as the gentle giant; a perfect leader, husband, father and friend who donated tirelessly to his community – He will be dearly missed. The late Kaddu experienced respiratory failure and succumbed to Covid-19 in San Francisco on September 10th 2021.

A GO FUND ME has been created in his honor — Please DONATE
