He was a Ugandan music legend whose musical career spanned more than 4 decades.  Elly Wamala, who died at 69 was remembered in a tribute concert organised by Touch N’ Soul Band in Boston on Sunday 29th 2012.  The Boston concert featured his son Spurgeon Wamala and daughter Fiona Wamala Mukasa whose performance of their late father’s crowd favorite songs like ‘Kaama Katono, Nkole Mpakase, Sacramento, Nga Bwekolanga, Ebinyumu Ebyaffe, Boda Boda and Voila drew revelers to the dance floor.’

Fiona Mukasa who flew in from the UK was grateful to the Bostonians for loving her Dad’s music and did assure the audience that their father’s music still lives on through Elly Wamala’s offspring and the various records/CDs he produced.

Elly Wamala was a recipient of numerous accolades including a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to Ugandan music through the years. The tribute concert was the first memorial held in honor of this late Ugandan musical icon outside of Uganda.
