The Uganda-American Sickle Cell Rescue Fund (UASCRF) was founded in 2005. It is an effort by a Uganda-American couple Abudallah and Lukiah L. Mulumba with well wishers in the United States to raise funds and awareness to help in the fight against sickle cell disease in Uganda. 100% of all monies raised is used directly for programs related to sickle cell in Uganda.
URGENT NEED:
The most important goal right now is to build a sickle center which will have among other facilities, a sickle cell day center and a training facility for training of trainers and educators on sickle cell.
The Mulumba family has already donated land for the construction of this center. Many companies in Uganda have also showed a lot of interest in contributing materials and funds to make this dream a reality.
**** When the center is finally finished, we will need furniture, medical, office and educational equipment to furnish the center. We will be publishing a list of items that we will need at this website in the near future. We appeal to any individual or organizations to come to the aid of this effort.
For activities that you can help with.
You can also adopt a sickle cell child by paying his/her school fees. A lot of sickle cell parents are not able to pay for their children’s schooling because of inability to work due to the disease.
***** Help in the fight against stereotyping of sickle cell patients by explaining that sickle cell is a genetic inheritance that has nothing to do with witchcraft, spells or charms.
