The World Bank Group President Mr. Jim Yong Kim Flies Ethiopian Airlines After Visit to Uganda

By Ronnie Mayanja — The World Bank Group President Mr. Jim Yong Kim was in Uganda for a state visit that saw him accompany the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on a historical visit to the great lakes region of Central Africa. However in what seemed to be a departure from a tradition held by other World leaders, the World Bank President flew commercial aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight out of Entebbe via Addis Ababa to Washington DC.

As part of the Bank’s pledge toward peace and security in the region Mr. Yong Kim said that the World bank was committing $1 billion dollars towards development of the DR Congo conflict area as a driver to bring about lasting peace in the region. He also re-affirmed the UN-Secretary General’s statement that without development there cannot be lasting peace!

The World Bank President had arrived in Uganda on a UN flight together with the UN Secretary General. Before departing Entebbe Airport Mr. Jim Yong Kim was seen off by the Uganda Government dignitaries and the Ethiopian Airlines – Uganda Country Manager Mr. Abebe Angessa who together with other Ethiopian Airline staff presented some gifts and a bouquet of flowers to the World Bank Group President.
