Boston police, firefighters, and EMS workers responded to an office building in Back Bay this morning after a man fell down an elevator shaft and died, authorities said.

The man was an elevator operator working in the 31 St. James Ave. building. Authorities found him dead at the bottom of the shaft, according to Boston Fire spokesman Steve MacDonald.

Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are trying to determine the cause, a spokesman said.

Firefighters will work to remove the man after police are finished, said MacDonald. A face book post by a close friend revealed and confirmed the identity of the deceased as a Ugandan named Nyombi Tito David.
