Dear Community Members,

This is a comprehensive update of plans underway to transport Evelyn Namujulirwa (See attached photo) body back to Uganda. Evelyn passed away suddenly on 6/28/2014 and she was 33 years old! (R.I.P).

1. Her body as of this email is with the LA County Coroner’s office for the about 10 days for autopsy to determine the cause of death! She died suddenly and no one in the community knows the exact cause of her death!

2.Evelyn did not have any relatives in the USA, so the affairs of transporting her body back will be primarily dealt with by UCOC leadership and some of her friends in conjunction with the family in Uganda!

3. UCOC along with a few of her friends are in constant contact with her relatives in Uganda.

4. This Friday July 4 @ 6:00PM the initial wake gathering and fundraiser for money to transport her remains to Uganda will be held at Dan Kabukuru’s residence (6702 Cedros Ave, Van Nuys CA 91405)

5. The cost of shipping her remains to Uganda will be between $8,000-10,000.00 USD and this is our target to raise together with the her surviving family in Uganda.

6. The deceased did not have any life insurance policy! So the entire cost of shipping her remains will be on the community along with the family!

7. UCOC is kindly appealing to all community members and community groups such our churches, and muno mukabi to help in doing what we have always done as the Ugandan community to transport this young woman’s body back home for burial! For those who can not attend this fundraiser for one reason or another you can deposit your contributions via check or cash to the UCOC main account @ Bank of America (routing number 122000661 A/C # 19870-71960): make checks payable to Ugandan Community in California and write in the Memo (Evelyn Namujulirwa)! Rev Joy Magala(818.274.4234) & Pastor Robert Kayongo(818.613.7491) will also be receiving checks and cash on UCOC’s behalf!

8. Please do not hesitate to call me on my cell below if you have any questions or suggestions!

didn’t she have any monies of her own?

Richard, she may have had her own money but given she was the only one with access to it and she is dead – it will not be possible to use the money for this.

That is why the Ugandan community in California decided to do the fundraising on her behalf in liaison with her family back in Uganda.
