The Diaspora Services Department was created in 2007 following a Presidential Directive for a Diaspora Services Department to be created in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Public Service approved the creation of the Department in 2008. The overall objective of the department is to serve as a coordination point for various Diaspora issues and offers a wide range of services to the large population of Ugandans in the Diaspora and their relatives at home (Uganda).

The Department envisions a well-respected and proudly competitive Ugandan Diaspora that not only contributes significantly to the productivity and well-being of the countries where they reside or work but maintains strong economic, political, social and cultural ties with Uganda.

I’m heading a very dedicated team of officers who respond to all the queries that come to us from the Ugandan Diaspora all over the world. I spent 5 years serving at the Uganda High Commission in London, UK where I handled a number of assignments concerning the Diaspora. Before that, I served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters as a Desk Officer for Middle East and Desk Officer in the Asia Department. So I’m well conversant with the tough conditions our fellow Ugandans in the Middle East and Asian countries face. I have also been a student abroad (Moscow & Kiev) and understand most of the issues affecting students.

Please inform other Ugandans that the Diaspora Services Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kampala is here to serve especially you brothers and sisters in the Diaspora. They should feel free to bring to our attention any views, concerns or issues so that the Department follows it up with relevant stakeholders in Government.

I am a Ugandan that left the country about 35 years ago and became an American citizen. My question is how do I apply to get dual citizenship?
