On Wednesday Dec 30th at Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Ballroom, the Ugandan Diaspora Network hosted its 5th annual Uganda Diaspora Gala in what was an evening of glamour and pomp that attracted Ugandans in the Diaspora from across the globe.

The evening started off with a red carpet and a networking cocktail sponsored by Nile Breweries and Pepsi in the foyer of the Victoria ballroom, guests were then ushered into the Victoria ballroom for entertainment, dinner and the Diaspora Awards. For fashion Rafael Kasule and Martha Jabo whose fashion debut was launched on the same stage 4 years ago was on hand with her latest designs…


This year’s keynote speech was delivered by Mr. James Aguma – Chief Financial Officer – South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) who was specially recognized (The Chief Executive Officer – NBS Television Mr. Kin Kariisa) along other notable guest appearances like Mr. Victor Ochen – the former Nobel Peace Prize Nominee for 2015 and founder AYINET, Mr. Stephen Tio Kauma – The Director Human Resource at the Import & Export (EXIM) Bank of Africa based in Egypt, Dr. Josephine Ssenkungo – Director of Education and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) in the State of New Mexico, USA and Mr. Andy Kristian Agabe whose innovation and incubator with Bantu Coffee has won him recognition at Harvard University.


Entertainment was provided by Uganda’s legendary band of more than 40 years — The Afrigo band led by Band leader Moses Matovu. Sandra Suubi the airtel – trace winner did not disappoint doing her ‘Togwamu Suubi’ also featured were new kids on the bloc – The Xtreme Cultural Troupe that featured South African Cultural dances! The guest of honor was H.E. the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi.


By far the Ugandan Diaspora Networking Gala is the biggest Diaspora Homecoming Event of the year that annually attracts more than 300 Ugandans living and working abroad including companies that target and market for the Diaspora. The event was organised by Ronnie Mayanja in association with the Patron – Uganda Diaspora Network Dr. Maggie Kigozi. And working together with their dedicated team of volunteers the event celebrated its 5th year at Kampala Serena hotel!


This year new partners included NBS Television,  MTN Mobile Money Transfers, Uganda Investment Authority,Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Diaspora Affairs Dept, Roofings Uganda, The Uganda American Chamber of Commerce, Synergy Partners Uganda, Bank of Uganda, Diamond Trust Bank, The Parliament of Uganda – Diaspora Desk, Western Union, Nile Breweries, Pepsi Uganda, Jomayi Property Consultants, Graestone Properties and Clinic at the Mall in Bugolobi.
